Starbound is a 2D Sci-Fi themed survival/building/crafting game set in a procedurally generated universe that can be fully explored. Asra and the Ruin stop being mere obstacles to be destroyed, and become quest objectives. I sincerely hope that in a future update, homeworlds for all races will be added to the universe generation, so we can have a bit of closure in that regard.I don't think that giving the Ruin the power to corrupt people is appropriate in this instance. I mean, I know in her lore she was a survivor of a ship that was attacked by some non-human mercs, but to go genocidal on every other race because of that is absolutely insane. It feels like there was something there to better explain why Astra is as batshit as she is, like the Ruin being some entity to that reaches out and corrupts the minds of people into doing violence, or that she believes the Ruin is coming back and nothing can stop it and the only way to not get wiped out is to work for it, or that there was something more to the attack, or that she got sick of the way races fought with each other or something, anything other than what we got now. In fact, setting up a realistic line of reasoning for your villain and then picking it apart is a powerful tool for combating damaging ideologies. Their attacks vary depending on the type of encounter. While trying it out I found a quest to hunt down and arrest Asra Nox, leading to … Similarly, the Ruin supposedly cannot abide any life save itself. In the opposite corner, you have the player, recent graduate from the multi-species Protectorate, traveling the galaxy collecting allies from all peoples to confront a danger that affects them all.Starbound's story is about facing the things that divide us and overcoming them.
And Chucklefish handled that exactly in the way they should've - by retconing the hell out of it.Lest you think you're being unfairly persecuted, I downvoted you for one reason and one reason only:this entire thread is, in my honest opinion, full of shit.As for a reply, I didn't really have anything to say that Suppose we kept the "ha ha, hylotl are fishy butt monkeys, it's funny to watch them get hurt" stuff.
Go to her and do as much damage before the next cycle of attacks starts. Furthermore, both potential options I gave above allow for a level of redemption or reflection on part of the villain character.
She quickly follows this up by teleporting to a corner and slash-dashing to the opposite corner at ground level. If unity is your goal, then you want to bring them into the fold too, because they The theme they've chosen is powerful. And I feel like they made Nox a human simply because the game treats you as a human no matter what race you are, as can be seen in the way the missions play out. Starbound > General Discussions > Topic Details. Asra fight takes place in a small square room. theres also the big gripes with the linear story with the abrupt 'that's it?' These reasons are obviously irrational--assigning blame to people who are not actually responsible. It's based entirely on the now non-canon beta lore, and making Hylotl the main villain would just add to the pile of "reasons why Hylotl deserve genocide". hylotl were bland beforehand, but were made worse by turning them into uber weeb nerds with sticks up their backsides, the apex were turned into a bland dystopia when the miniknog was turned from secret police to shadow government all the while gutting big ape as a character out of the story, don't get me started on the avians because compared to the beta version they are essentially an unfinished race, the writing for the nova kids both before and after beta is garbage, humans are bland meme factories when it doesn't involve the protectorate, the glitch are okay but could have been expounded upon by adding 'awakened' villages, but the saddest of all the retcons are the florans who were progressing beyond just stab and eat under the guide of 'greenfinger' but people liked the hissy stabby plants so instead of progressing them they culled back all progress and put them into forced stagnation by focusing on what people meme'd over them about instead of allowing them to flourish into an intellectual race. "Poorly written story has poorly written characters". Her motivations make zero sense, as not only has the Ruin shown it is perfectly fine with wiping out humans, she doesn't have any real reason to want all non-humans dead anyway. Asra Nox is the leader of the Occasus Cult, and is utterly dedicated to wiping all non-human life from the universe, and any humans who would dare get in the way of that goal.
